Thursday Music...
Thurs Sept 1stBREJEIRO
Irresistible acoustic quartet, specialising in
Brazilian ‘Choro’ music. Twin mandolins, pulsating
rhythm guitar, dynamic Latin percussion. Dave Griffiths
& Mike Pryor on mandolins, Helen James on guitar and
Andy Fuller on percussion.
The great
Jim Reynolds is a songwriter, guitarist & singer of
blues, ragtime & old fashioned ballads, both his own
and those of J.J. Cale, Nick Drake, John Martyn, and
Roy Orbison etc. Tonight he's joined by the
fantastic violinist/singer Gina Griffin.
One of Bristol’s
best musicians, violin virtuoso John Pearce (master of
every genre he tackles), is joined by the excellent
pianist Dave Newton for an evening of exceptional jazz
(standards & originals). Don’t miss.
Drum-and-brass
ensemble mixing Afro rhythms, Latino brass lines, Arabic
melodies, hip-hop beats and Balkan time signatures, to
produce crazily infectious music. Drummer Matt Brown, &
the trumpet & saxes of Ben Ransom, Charlotte Ostafew &
Sophie Stockham.
Quite simply one
of the best bands in Bristol, where "1930s Berlin
Cabaret, Hot Club De France, Django Reinhardt & Tom
Waits meet in an after hours jam with the local
Tziganes". Cool Canadian chanteuse Katya Gorrie, the
superb Denny Ilett & Dave Archer on guitars, and Mirec
Salmon on accordion.
